BELLVILLE BEATS BURTON SOFTBALL ON A WALK-OFF WIN
With basketball season over, the Burton Lady Panther Softball Team got to play with their regular starters for the first team this season against Class 4A Bellville. They gave them a run for their money, but ultimately it was the Brahmanettes coming out on top with a 5-4 walk-off victory.
Bellville scored two runs in the bottom of the first to take an early 2-0 lead. Dacie Beamon and Alizabeth Romero led it off with back-to-back walks. They both moved up on a wild pitch. Beamon scored the first run on a sacrifice fly by Emma Dristas. Caylee Flores followed with an RBI single to score Romero.
Burton tied the game with a pair of runs in the top of the third. Lexi Broesche led it off with a single. She later came around to score on an error at first base by Beamon, which cut the lead to 2-1. Amaya Williams slugged a triple, and scored on an error in right field by Mekenna Simms to make it 2-2.
Bellville got the runs back in the bottom of the third. Ella Burnett reached on an error by shortstop Aerynn Huntsman, and later advanced to second on a passed ball. Then, Dristas singled Burnett home to put the Brahmanettes back in front 3-2. Dristas later came home on an RBI single by Kirklynne Romero to increase the Bellville advantage to 4-2.
Leilah Ellis put the Lady Panthers on the scoreboard again with a solo homer to lead off the fourth inning that cut it to a one-run game 4-3.

Burton tied the game again in the top of the sixth. Paige Fritsch led off the inning with a single, and Laci Broesche moved her over to third with a double. Fritsch would then score on an RBI groundout by Ellis, which tied things up at 4-4.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Burnett and Dristas had back-to-back singles. Later in the frame, Kirklynne Romero singled home Burnett with the game winning run.
Simms got the win in relief. Lexi Broesche took the loss.
Next up, the Burton Lady Panthers will be taking part in another tournament being held in Franklin this weekend. Bellville will next be traveling to Episcopal on Friday for a 4pm game.
