CUB BASEBALL POUNDS MORTON RANCH 27-0 IN ALUMNI TOURNAMENT OPENER
The Brenham Cub Baseball Team scored early and often as they put together a 27-0 victory over Morton Ranch in the opener of the annual Alumni Tournament this (Thursday) afternoon.
The Cubs got it going early in the bottom of the first inning with back-to-back homers by Dalton Hart and Owen Finke to give Brenham a 2-0 lead.
Ethan Aschenbeck was hit by a pitch, and he later stole second base. Luke Hardy followed with a single. Then, Brooks Roznovsky ripped a two-run single to score them both. Roznovsky later came home on an RBI groundout by Landry Mendoza to make it 5-0 Cubs.
In the bottom of the second inning, the Brenham offense exploded for 11 runs. Jack Rogas led the frame off with a single. Nate Rau came in the game to courtesy run for him. Dalton Hart reached on an error. Owen Finke brought them both home with a two-run double. Drake Bentke came up next and slugged a two-run homer to give the Cubs a 9-0 advantage.
The frame continued as Aschenbeck drew a walk, and then scored on an RBI double by Luke Hardy. Roznovsky made it back-to-back RBI doubles, which allowed Hardy to score. Caleb Maurer singled. Rogas came up for the second time in the inning and singled home Roznovsky. Rau once again ran for Rogas. Hart singled home Maurer. Two batters later, Bentke smashed a three-run homer that brought in Rau and Hart as well, which gave the Cubs a 16-0 lead.
Brenham added four more runs in the third inning. Rau doubled to left field, and Maurer walked. Rogas singled home Rau. Bleu Cienega came up as a pinch-hitter, and smacked an RBI single that scored Maurer. An error on the play also allowed Rogas to come around and cross the plate as well. Cienega later scored on an RBI groundout by Finke to increase the Cubs' lead to 20-0.
They weren't done yet. Brenham tacked on seven more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Cooper Hodde reached on an error, and Hudson Hartstack walked. Rau hit an RBI single to score Hodde. Maurer was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Rogas hit his third RBI single (fourth hit total) of the game to score Hartstack. Cienega drew a bases loaded walk that brought home Maurer. Finke would then cap off the scoring with a grand slam to make it 27-0 Cubs.
Not only was the hitting dominant, but so was the pitching. Dawson Keim, Kyle Curtis, Braeden Gandy, and Brooks Roznovsky combined on a five-inning perfect game. Keim pitched the first two, and the others went one inning each.
Next up, the Cubs are scheduled to face Willis tonight (Thursday) at 7:30pm at Fireman's Park. KWHI will have live coverage beginning with the pregame at 7:05pm on 1280AM, 101.7FM, and KWHI.com.
