FAYETTE CO. ELECTION RESULTS IN AFTER EQUIPMENT MALFUNCTION; VANDEVER & HOMAN GOING TO RUNOFF, STERNADEL WINS

Results from Tuesday’s primary election have been counted in Fayette County after issues with voting equipment forced delays into Wednesday.

The Fayette County Elections Office reported on its website that voting results were impacted due to “an unforeseen issue with the tabulation equipment.”  According to the office, the tabulation equipment motherboard “completely failed” after results were counted for ballot by mail, early voting, and the Precinct 422, 423 and 425 election day ballot boxes. Technicians came out Wednesday morning, and results were posted in the afternoon.

In the five-way race on the Republican primary ballot for county judge, Josh Vandever and Josh Homan will advance to a runoff on Saturday, May 26th.

Vandever tallied 2,226 votes and Homan collected 1,585 votes, coming out to 38.2 percent and 27.2 percent of the total votes cast.  William Patrick Bernsen came in third with 1,071 votes, followed by Craig Moreau with 478 and Michael Zweschper with 465.

For the three-way Republican race for Precinct 2 commissioner, Clint Sternadel defended his seat after winning with 914 votes, amounting to 52.7 percent of the vote.  Chad Tiemann finished with 705 votes, and Abraham Pace received 115 votes.

The local candidates will not face opposition in the November election.  No other county positions were contested.
