PANTHER BASEBALL WINS BOTH GAMES ON OPENING DAY OF THE WEIMAR TOURNAMENT

The Burton Panther Baseball Team opened up the Weimar Tournament earlier today (Thursday) with a pair of wins. In the first game of the day, the Panthers beat Onalaska 6-2.

Logun Tosta got it started for Burton by reaching on an error in the top of the first inning. He later stole second base, and came home on an RBI single by Rueben Rodriguez. Ryder Biggs followed with an RBI triple to score Rodriguez, and then scored himself on a wild pitch to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead.

Onalaska came back with two runs in the bottom of the first to cut the lead to 3-2. However, that would be the last time they would get on the scoreboard.

Burton added another run in the top of the third. Tosta walked and later scored on an RBI groundout by Rodriguez. That made it 4-2 Panthers.

Burton later came up with two runs in the top of the fifth inning to increase their lead to 6-2. Tosta walked again, and came around to score on an RBI double by Braydon Martin. Easton Witt came into game the courtesy run for Martin, and later scored on a wild pitch.

Tyler Witt picked up another win by going five innings allowing eight hits, two runs, only one was earned, a walk, and seven strikeouts.

Burton went on to win their second game as well this afternoon with a 16-2 victory over Hempstead. The game lasted only three innings.

The Panthers scored three runs in the first, seven runs in the second, and six runs in the third.

Among the highlights were a two-run inside-the-park homer by Ryder Biggs, a three-run triple by Braydon Martin, and Rueben Rodriguez with both an RBI triple and an RBI single.

Easton Witt went all three innings to get the win. He allowed four hits, two runs, just one of which was earned, no walks, and struck out four.

Next up, the Weimar Tournament continues as the Panthers will face Tidehaven tomorrow (Friday) at 2pm.
