BRENHAM POLICE OFFICER PRESENTED COMMENDATION FOR SERVICE DURING SHOOTING CALL
A Brenham police officer was recognized at Thursday’s Brenham City Council meeting for his aid to a shooting victim.

Commendation Award by Brenham Police Chief
Gary Boshears at Thursday's city council meeting.
The commendation was presented for Guillen's
response and efforts on a call for a shooting on
December 25.
Officer Mateo Guillen was presented a Chief’s Commendation for his service while responding to a shooting on Christmas Day on West Third Street, where he administered life-saving measures to a victim who had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
Police Chief Gary Boshears said Guillen understood the immediate and life-threatening nature of the victim’s injuries and promptly applied tourniquets and chest seals to control severe hemorrhaging. Boshears said Guillen “distinguished himself through exceptional performance of duty”, adding that his actions significantly reduced the risk of further blood loss and ensured the victim could be transported for advanced medical treatment.
Guillen received the certificate of commendation, an award bar for his uniform and a police chief’s challenge coin.
Also on Thursday, Blinn College Police Chief John Chancellor, representing the Texas Police Chiefs Association (TPCA), formally acknowledged the Brenham Police Department for achieving re-accreditation through the TPCA’s Law Enforcement Accreditation Program. The program evaluates agencies’ compliance with 173 best business practices for Texas law enforcement.
Chancellor called the accreditation the “gold standard” for professional policing in Texas and said that out of approximately 2,800 law enforcement agencies in the state, only 228 have successfully achieved and maintained accreditation.
