CUBETTE SOFTBALL GETS A BOUNCE BACK WIN OVER RUDDER 10-0
After losing a tough ballgame to Montgomery on Friday night, the Brenham Cubettes got back up, dusted themselves off, and bounced back to defeat Rudder 10-0 this (Monday) afternoon in a matinee district game.
Laityn Davis had her best outing in the circle this season throwing a complete game, two-hit shutout, and striking out eight batters along the way.
Brenham also managed ten runs on 15 hits, and they did not commit an error in the field.
The Cubettes got on the board in the first inning. McKenzie Tiemann led it off with a single, stole second, advanced to third on a groundout, and scored on an RBI single by Davis to make it 1-0.
Brenham got another run in the second inning. Ali Tiemann was hit by a pitch, and she also stole second. When Tiemann tried for third base, the catcher overthrew the bag, which allowed her to get up and come home to make it 2-0 Brenham.
The Cubettes doubled their score with two more runs in third inning. Davis led it off with a double, and later crossed home plate following a sacrifice fly by Aldyn Jacks. Sandra Prieto singled, stole second, and scored on an RBI double by Ali Tiemann, which have Brenham a 4-0 lead.
In the fourth inning, McKenzie Tiemann smashed her seventh homer of the season to increase the Cubette lead to 5-0.
To start the bottom of the fifth inning, MaKenna Kmiec was hit by a pitch, and Ali Tiemann reached on a bunt single. Isabelle Hyatt laid down a sacrifice bunt to move both runners over. Payson Gurka hit an infield single, and on an error by the third baseman for Rudder, Kmiec and Ali both scored. That added to the Brenham advantage to make it a 7-0 game.
The Cubettes finished it off in the bottom of the sixth with three runs to enforce the 10-0 mercy rule. Davis picked up her fourth hit of the game, and Jaks walked. Davis later scored on an error, while Jaks came home on a wild pitch. Kmiec and Ali Tiemann hit back-to-back singles. Braelyn Stroesch came up as a pinch-hitter and drew a walk to load the bases. Payson Gurka hit a sacrifice fly that scored Kmiec with the final run.
The win improves Brenham to 8-10 on the season and 1-2 in district. Next up, they will host Huntsville on Tuesday, March 17, at Alumni Field. It is going to be Parents Night. KWHI will have live coverage beginning with the pregame at 5:05pm, followed by the first pitch at 5:30pm.
