FATAL BURLESON CO. CRASH UNDER INVESTIGATION AFTER VEHICLE REAR-ENDS 18-WHEELER
Authorities in Burleson County are investigating a fatal weekend accident near Caldwell, involving a vehicle that drove into the back of an 18-wheeler.
DPS Sergeant Justin Ruiz reports that the two-vehicle accident occurred after 5 a.m. Saturday in the 5600 block of Highway 36, roughly five miles south of Caldwell.
According to Sgt. Ruiz, a 2002 Kenworth truck tractor semi-trailer was stopped on the right-hand shoulder of the road, facing south. A 2016 Chevrolet Trax was traveling southbound when it drifted out of its lane and onto the right shoulder, where it struck the rear of the 18-wheeler trailer.
The driver of the Chevrolet, 49-year-old Erin Dietrich of College Station, was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other occupants in the vehicle, and the driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.
Members of the Caldwell Fire and Rescue Department, Burleson County Sheriff’s Office and CHI St. Joseph Health EMS also responded to the scene.
