The board will review a Certificate of Appropriateness (CoA) application for vacant property owned by Blake and Julie Sawyer at 111 South St. Charles Street.  The owners wish to convert the property into a park-like space for public and private use.

Proposed plans include a decorative brick and metal fence, brick pavers, landscaping, picnic tables, lighting, and concrete areas for private parking and a single food trailer.  Additionally, two sets of swinging pedestrian gates would allow for public access to be restricted when hosting private events or using the space for personal gatherings.

The other CoA request to be taken up is for the property owned by Rachael Beseda at 216 West Alamo Street, which is planned for redevelopment as a sports bar and grill called Rally Room.  The property owner intends to replace the front door facing West Alamo Street and the back door and roll-up garage door facing the alley, as well as paint murals on the front and back façade.

City staff recommends approval of both CoA applications.

In other business, board members will potentially give direction to staff regarding the development of a Local Preservation Plan to submit to the Texas Historical Commission for the purpose of becoming a Certified Local Government (CLG) community.

The CLG program is designed to promote preservation activity at the local level in coordination with state and national preservation efforts, and it provides participating communities with resources, technical materials, and grant opportunities to support best practices in historic preservation.  One item required for CLG designation is a preservation plan outlining goals, objectives and strategic priorities to guide preservation initiatives.

The board will also elect who will serve as its chair and vice chair for the 2026 calendar year.

The board will meet Tuesday at 5:15 p.m. at Brenham City Hall.
