Associate Commissioner of Curriculum and Instruction Nicholas Keith met with members of Brenham ISD’s instructional leadership team, including campus principals and district administrators, to examine what effective math instruction looks like in practice.
According to a Brenham ISD press release, the session focused on the system changes needed to strengthen math outcomes across all campuses. It also emphasized the usage of evidence-based strategies to build strong content knowledge and instructional expertise, with the goal of delivering grade-level mathematics while meeting the needs of all learners.
District officials reviewed the TEA’s Five Key Moves of Beliefs and Framework, Instructional Materials, Assessment, Professional Development, and Managed Instruction. They also discussed how those moves translate into daily classroom practice and how to best support teachers in making real-time instructional decisions that keep students engaged.
Chief Academic Officer Sara Borchgardt said Brenham ISD’s campus leaders and teachers “are doing the hard, meaningful work every day to deepen their understanding and refine their practice” and that the district is “incredibly proud of their commitment and belief in what our students can achieve.” She added, “We are committed to continuous improvement, and that means staying focused on the work that makes the greatest difference for students.
