WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO RECEIVE OPERATION SAFE SHIELD DONATION, DISCUSS STATE GRANT FUNDS FOR SHERIFF’S OFFICE
Washington County Commissioners will consider a donation on Tuesday from a nonprofit organization that provides law enforcement agencies with protective materials.
The court will take up a donation from Operation Safe Shield in the amount of $30,895 to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. The donation would be for the purpose of purchasing and installing protective, bullet-resistant windshields for 10 patrol vehicles.
Operation Safe Shield has assisted several Brazos Valley law enforcement entities with outfitting their patrol vehicles with ballistic protection.
Commissioners will then receive the sheriff’s office’s monthly report, along with reports from the county and district clerks, justices of the peace, auditor, tax assessor-collector, treasurer, constables, elections and veterans service office.
Also in session, commissioners will:
- Vote on accepting donated Local Fest event tickets from PlanNorth Architectural Co. for the sheriff’s office, constable’s offices, EMS and E911.
- Consider an Engineering and Development Services Department budget amendment to recognize unexpected revenue (donations) from Magnolia Oil and Gas and to increase the corresponding expense line items for paving materials and rock base.
- Act on a subdivision variance request for a land division fronting Phillips Lane and Quarry Road in Precinct 3, consisting of 19.94 acres.
- Vote on a subdivision variance request for a land division fronting Harge Road in Precinct 3, consisting of 10.08 acres.
Following the court’s regular meeting on Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Washington County Courthouse, it will meet again at the courthouse at 2 p.m. for a workshop.
The workshop will discuss funds through Senate Bill 22 from the 88th Legislature, which established a grant program to provide financial assistance to eligible sheriff’s offices, constable’s offices and district and county attorney’s offices. Topics for the workshop will include eligibility requirements, allowable uses, and potential allocation strategies for the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
