WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS ACCEPT OPERATION SAFE SHIELD DONATION FOR SHERIFF’S OFFICE PATROL VEHICLES

Washington County Sheriff Trey Holleway shares
details with county commissioners on Tuesday
about a donation from Operation Safe Shield to
install bullet-resistant windshields on sheriff's office
patrol vehicles.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office will soon be able to equip some of its patrol vehicles with bullet-resistant materials.

County commissioners accepted a donation today (Tuesday) from Operation Safe Shield to allow the sheriff’s office to purchase and install protective bullet-resistant windshields for 10 patrol vehicles.

Sheriff Trey Holleway said Operation Safe Shield has supported numerous Brazos Valley law enforcement agencies with upgrading their vehicle fleets with ballistic protection.

The full donation total is $30,895.

Holleway also provided his monthly report to commissioners, in which he shared that several major renovations at the jail facility, including the kitchen, laundry room and roof, are either close to completion or fully complete.

Commissioner Candice Bullock said the new kitchen area is much larger and more efficient than the previous kitchen, adding that it has what the sheriff’s office needs for now and in the event of growth in the future.  County Judge John Durrenberger noted that the project was paid for with American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds rather than local tax dollars.

Also in session, commissioners:

  • Received monthly reports from the county and district clerks, justices of the peace, auditor, tax assessor-collector, treasurer, constables, elections and veterans service office.
  • Accepted donated event tickets from The Local Fund for members of the sheriff’s office, constable’s offices, EMS and E911 to attend Local Fest.
  • Approved an Engineering and Development Services Department budget amendment to recognize unexpected revenue (donations) from Magnolia Oil and Gas and to increase the corresponding expense line items for paving materials and rock base.
  • Approved a subdivision variance request for a land division fronting Phillips Lane and Quarry Road in Precinct 3, consisting of 19.94 acres.
  • Approved a subdivision variance request for a land division fronting Harge Road in Precinct 3, consisting of 10.08 acres.
