CUB BASEBALL STAYS UNBEATEN IN DISTRICT WITH A 13-0 WIN OVER HUNTSVILLE
The Brenham Cub Baseball Team remained unbeaten in District 17-5A play last (Tuesday) night after they picked up a 13-0 road win over the Huntsville Hornets.
After a scoreless first inning, Brenham struck first with a run in the top of the second inning. Landry Mendoza singled home Caleb Maurer to make it 1-0 Cubs.
Brenham tacked on three additional runs in the top of the third inning. Owen Finke singled, Drake Bentke walked, and Luke Hardy was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Brody Tucker reached on an error that allowed Finke to score. Brayden Steele followed with a two-run single to bring home Bentke and Hardy, which upped the Cub lead to 4-0.
Brenham put the game away with eight runs in the top of the fourth inning. Finke and Bentke singled to put two runners on for Ethan Aschenbeck. Aschenbeck singled home Finke, and Hardy singled home Aschenbeck to make it 6-0 Cubs.
Bleu Cienega walked to load the bases for Tucker. Tucker singled home Aschenbeck. Caleb Maurer came in to run for Tucker. Steele drew a bases loaded walk to score Hardy, and Mendoza brought home Cienega on a groundout to give Brenham a 9-0 advantage.
Dalton Hart cleaned the bases off with a three-run homer to put the Cubs up 12-0.
In the top of the fifth inning, Hardy was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Cooper Hodde came in as a courtesy runner. Hodde later scored on an RBI double by Brooks Roznovsky for lucky run #13.
Hardy got the start and went the first 3 2/3 innings to get the win on the mound. Sterling Scheffer closed it out with 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief.
Next up, the Cubs (14-8-1, 5-0) will host Huntsville on Friday night for Youth Night at Fireman's Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7pm. KWHI will have live coverage beginning with the pregame at 6:35pm on the KWHI.com Sports Alternate Feed.
