BRENHAM CUB GOLF TEAM CLINCHES DISTRICT 17-5A CHAMPIONSHIP

The Brenham Cub Golf Team won the District 17-5A Championship on Thursday afternoon at the Margaritaville Lake Resort in Conroe. The Cubs beat out College Station by one stroke over the two-day tournament to claim the championship.

College Station led Brenham by three strokes after the first day on Wednesday, 312 to 315. The Cougars had extended their lead to five strokes over the final six holes, but the Cubs rallied to come back and win it. Brenham ended up outscoring College Station 309 to 313 on the second day.

Luke Alford (So.) won the individual district title shooting a 146 over the two-day stretch. He had a 71 on the first day and a 75 on the second day. He beat out College Station's Braxton Merriman by two strokes to finish in first.

Holton Gillentine (So.) finished in a tie for third place with a two-day score of 151. He had a 74 on the first day, and 77 on the second day.

Caleb Klussmann (Jr.) had the biggest improvement from one day to the next. He finished seventh overall with a 155. After shooting an 82 on the first day, he improved by nine strokes to a 73 on the second day.

Rounding out the Cub scores were Max Felder (Fr.) with a 174 (90/84), and Levi Dupont (Sr.) with a 179 (88/91).

Brenham now advances to the Regional Tournament, which is also being held at Margaritaville, April 13-14.

The Cubs also sent a second team to the tournament. They finished ninth overall with a team score of 723 overall. They shot a 366 on the first day and a 357 on the second day. Brenham 2 was led by Joaquin Terry (Fr.), who finished 20th overall with a 169 (91/78).
