BURTON STUDENTS TAKE PART IN DISTRICT ACADEMIC TOURNAMENT

The Burton Panthers recently took part in the two-day 2026 District UIL Academic Tournament.
A total of 21 students took part in the tournament, with 19 qualifying for advancement to the Regional Meet.
The Burton Panthers accrued 576 points to capture the District Title for their second consecutive year.
Top scores for Burton were Cadeyn Manley (Sr.) who scored 80 points across CX Debate, One Act Play, and the Academic Tournament. Manley emerged as District Champion in Computer Science and Mathematics and further qualified for Regionals in Calculator Applications.
Devlin Douglas emerged as the second leading scorer for the Panthers with 74 points in CX Debate and capturing District titles in Current Events and Social Studies as well as earning additional advancement in Informative Speaking and Literary Criticism.
Amelia Brown placed third amongst the Panthers with 46 points through her participation in CX Debate, Theater, and Academics. Brown earned advancement to the Regional Meet by finishing first in the Prose Interpretation speaking event.
Other district event champions for Burton included Autumn Applewhite (So.) for Poetry Interpretation, Dylan Dallmeyer (So.) for Lincoln Douglas Debate, and Melanie Wood (Sr.) for Ready Writing. Additionally, Burton took first place in the team events of: Accounting, Computer Science, Current Events, Mathematics, Social Studies, and also scored the most points for speaking events amongst all schools.
Burton will next participate in the Regional Academic Meet hosted at La Vernia High School on Thursday, April 23rd and Friday, April 24th.
