CITY OF BRENHAM ACTIVATES STAGE 1 DROUGHT CONTINGENCY PLAN

The City of Brenham has enacted Stage 1 of its Drought Contingency Plan.

The city says the decision is due to the static water level at Lake Somerville reaching 234.8 feet or lower.  The action also aligns with the Brazos River Authority implementing Stage 1 Drought Watch conditions for Lake Somerville.

Residents and businesses are strongly encouraged to help conserve water by limiting the days and hours that they water outdoors.

Homeowners with even-numbered addresses are advised to water on Sundays and Thursdays, while homeowners with odd-numbered addresses should water on Saturdays and Wednesdays.  Recommended watering hours are midnight to 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. to midnight.

The city says it will follow stricter internal conservation measures aligned with Stage 2 drought requirements.  The splash pad will operate on reduced hours.  Hohlt Park will remain under Stage 1 conditions.

While the restrictions are voluntary, the city says participation is critical in protecting the shared water supply and can help prevent more severe restrictions in the future.
