BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL OKs FIRST READING OF SPEED REDUCTION ON HIGHWAY 36 SOUTH
Drivers on the south side of Brenham can expect a reduction to the speed limit along Highway 36 South in the near future.

tells the Brenham City Council on April 2 about a
speed reduction from 50 mph to 40 mph planned
along Highway 36 South, stretching from the
Highway 290 feeder road to around Cy-Fair Tire.
The Brenham City Council last week approved the first reading of an ordinance to lower the speed limit along Highway 36 South, from the Highway 290 feeder road to approximately 0.525 miles out – shortly past the intersection with Salem Road – from 50 mph to 40 mph. The speed limit will stay at 55 mph the rest of the way south to the city limits at Anderson Lane.
City of Brenham Public Works Director Dane Rau said TxDOT performed a speed study after the city asked for it to consider dropping the speed limit in that area due to the heavy traffic and the number of businesses. He said TxDOT may make further adjustments based on projects like the ongoing sidewalk reconstruction and the potential median extensions on Highway 36 and South Day Street.
Upon the council’s second reading of the ordinance, Rau said it would take about 60 days to get the new speed limit signs in and change out the old ones, so he expects it would be around July when that takes place.
