CUBETTE SOFTBALL KEEPS PLAYOFF HOPES ALIVE WITH 17-1 WIN OVER RUDDER

The Brenham Cubette Softball Team is not done yet. Brenham made the road trip to Bryan last (Tuesday) night for a District 17-5A game against the Rudder Lady Rangers, and they came away with a 17-1 victory. That game was called after just three innings due to the mercy rule.

The Cubettes got it started with a ten-run first inning. McKenzie Tiemann drew a leadoff walk, stole second, and came home to score the first run of the game on an RBI single by Harper Castillo. Castillo stole second, and Kylie Baker drew a walk. Payson Gurka came into the game to courtesy runner for Baker. Ali Tiemann followed with an RBI double that brought in Castillo. Sandra Prieto drew a walk to load the bases. Jaycee Hegar followed with a three-run single to score Gurka, Tiemann, and Prieto. That gave Brenham a 5-0 lead.

The inning continued as Isabelle Hyatt singled. Hegar and Hyatt later scored on a single by McKenzie Tiemann and an error by Rudder in centerfield. Aldyn Jaks continued the hit parade with a single that scored McKenzie. Laityn Davis drew a walk. Castillo rounded out the scoring with a two-run single that scored Jaks and Davis, which gave Brenham a 10-0 lead after just a half inning of play.

The Cubettes got the scoring started in the second inning. Ali Tiemann drew walk, and she later came around to score on a passed ball. Hegar tripled, and then came home on an RBI single by Hyatt. Kate Martin came in to run for Hyatt, but was erased on a fielder's choice that allowed McKenzie Tiemann to reach base. Jaks followed with a triple to score McKenzie, and then Davis tripled as well, which allowed Jaks to score, and increase the Brenham advantage to 14-0.

Rudder got their only hit and run of the game in the bottom of the second on a solo home run by Hailey Hoover to make it a 14-1 game.

The Cubettes finished it off with three more runs in the top of the third inning. Ali Tiemann and Payson Gurka had back-to-back singles. McKenna Marsters followed with a pinch-hit single to score Ali. Reagan Wall had the third straight pinch-hit single, following Gurka and Marsters, which scored Gurka. Hegar came back in to run for Marsters, and scored the final run on a double steal. to give Brenham a 17-1 lead.

Kylie Baker earned the victory in the circle going three innings allowing just one hit, one run, walking three, and striking out six.

Baker also reached a career milestone with her 300th career strikeout, which occurred in the second inning when she fanned Makayla Gulley.

Next up, the Cubettes continue district play as they travel to Huntsville on Friday night for a 6pm.
