The suspect in the deadly attack two years ago on the Brenham DPS Office has been deemed unfit for trial.

Washington County District Attorney Derek Estep told KWHI today (Friday) that 44-year-old Clenard Parker of Chappell Hill is currently being housed in a state hospital after a psychiatrist found him to be “incompetent to stand trial.”

Parker is accused of intentionally crashing a stolen 18-wheeler into the DPS Office on April 12, 2024, resulting in the deaths of two people and multiple other injuries.  He was indicted in July 2024 on charges of Capital Murder, Aggravated Assault, Criminal Mischief, Evading Arrest and Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle.

According to Estep, Parker has been at the state facility since December after he was determined to be unfit for trial during the summer.  He said, “There is a substantial wait-list for the state hospital due to high demand and low supply.”

Parker’s legal proceedings, including the scheduling of court dates, are effectively at a standstill while doctors attempt to restore him to competency, with Estep saying, “We can’t do anything until that determination is made by the doctors.”
