BURLESON CO. MAN DIES AFTER SHOOTING AT LARGE GATHERING IN FAYETTE CO.

A Burleson County man was killed after shots were fired at a trail ride event Saturday night in Fayette County.

According to Fayette County Sheriff’s Lieutenant David Beyer, the incident was called in around 11:30 p.m. at the R.C. Pavilion on Munke Road near La Grange.

Deputies responded to a report of shots fired at a large gathering and, after working their way through the crowd, found one person with a gunshot wound.  The victim, identified as 24-year-old Donnell La Zay Hall Alzavier, was transported to Seton Smithville Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Deputies and the Texas Rangers are investigating, with assistance from DPS evidence technicians.

Lt. Beyer said numerous shots were fired that night, and it is not yet known who struck the individual.  However, he said as of Tuesday, investigators have two persons of interest, including one who was already in custody on an unrelated charge.

According to Lt. Beyer, a large crowd was in attendance at the “Best Thang Smokin” trail ride event, though an approximate number of people could not be provided.  While he said there have not been issues before in the area with this particular group, problems at similar events hosted by other groups led the county to adopt new rules and regulations for mass gatherings.
