The Brenham Heritage Museum invites the public to an evening of Texas history this Thursday night.

The Museum is featuring a lecture by distinguished historian Dr. Walter Buenger. He will be presenting a program, titled “All Together, All Apart, and Maifest:  German Texans Amidst Others,” from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Museum.

A Members-Only Reception will precede the lecture at 5:30 p.m. on the museum’s main floor. Food and refreshments will be provided.

Dr. Buenger, who is a Professor Emeritus from the University of Texas at Austin, is widely recognized for his scholarship on Texas history and culture. He has authored or co-authored four books, co-edited three additional volumes, and contributed numerous articles and book chapters.

His work explores the connections between Texas and the broader South, the evolution of Texas identity, historiography, cultural memory, border influences, and the development of culture in the Southwest.

Buenger’s lecture will examine the complex relationships among cultural groups in Texas history, with a particular focus on German Texans and their interactions with Anglo and African American communities.

Topics will include Reconstruction-era politics, the role of figures such as Matt Gaines, the impact of the poll tax, the pressures of nativism in the early 20th century, and the gradual Angloization of German Texans. Dr. Buenger will also discuss the changing cultural significance of traditions such as Maifest.

Admission is $15 per person, or Free for Museum Members. Payment may be made at the door. Guests are encouraged to RSVP in advance to secure their spot: https://www.bhmtexas.org/programs-and-events/upcoming-programs
