BURTON SOFTBALL POUNDS GRANGER 11-0 TO WIN AREA CHAMPIONSHIP

The Burton Lady Panther Softball Team captured the Area Round Championship with an 11-0 victory over Granger on Thursday in Bastrop.
Burton struck right away with a run in the top of the first inning. Paige Fritsch singled, took second on a fielder's choice, and then came in to score on an RBI single by Leilah Ellis. That gave the Lady Panthers a 1-0 lead.
Burton would then break the game open with five runs in the top of the third inning. Lexi Broesche reached on a one-out walk, and then she came home to score on an RBI double by Amaya Williams. Fritsch singled home Williams to make it 3-0. Ellis and Laci Broesche walked to load the bases. Aerynn Huntsman cleared the bases by ripping a three-run double, which put the Lady Panthers ahead by a score of 6-0.
Burton went on to tack on five more runs in the top of the fourth inning. Williams reached on a one-out double. Fritsch followed with a double of her own that scored Williams to make it 7-0. Then, she came home on RBI single by Natalie Hodde to increase the lead to 8-0 Lady Panthers. Ellis came up next and doubled home Hodde. Laci Broesche and Melanie Wood both walked. Kelsey Landriault rounded out the scoring with a two-run single to increase the Burton lead to 11-0.
Lexi Broesche picked up the win with a dominant performance in the circle. She pitched five shutout innings allowing just one hit and one walk, while striking out six.
With the win, Burton is now 19-12 on the season, and on a 13-game winning streak.
They now move on to the Region-Semifinals next week against Woodsboro. Woodsboro (33-5) is coming off a sweep over La Villa 10-0, and 13-3.
