HEMPSTEAD MAN SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR BANK ROBBERY

A Hempstead man will be going to prison after being sentenced in Brazos County District Court for a bank robbery that occurred nearly six years ago.

Ondre Green
(Brazos Co. Jail)

25-year-old Ondre Green pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 20 years in prison for three counts of Aggravated Robbery.

He was also ordered to spend 24 months in a State Jail Facility for an additional charge of Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.

According to the Brazos County District Attorney’s Office, Green pleaded guilty to the offenses in September. As a result of the sentence, he will not be eligible for parole until he has served at least half of his prison term.

On November 6, 2020, College Station police officers responded to a robbery-in-progress call at the First Financial Bank.

A man had entered the building with a firearm, demanded money, and threatened their lives.

The suspect stole approximately $23,000 in cash along with multiple cellphones.

Officers were able to track the cellphones to an area near Wolf Pen Creek.

Detective Steve Schoellman observed an individual, who was later identified as Green, matching the suspect’s description, but was wearing different clothes, and carrying a backpack.

At first, he claimed to have just found the bag, but he later admitted that it was his.

After police obtained a search warrant, inside the bag, they found the firearm, the money, and the stolen cellphones.

In a nearby parking garage, police also recovered a Honda Accord that was reported stolen out of Houston earlier in the day.

The clothing and shoes that Green used during the robbery were found in the car.

Police also obtained a warrant for Green’s pager, which showed that he was researching how to commit bank robberies and car thefts, and potential penalties for armed robbery.

During the sentencing hearing, two victims provided witness impact statements describing what they experienced during the robbery and lasting effects it had on their lives.
