CHIEF WEEMS LEAVING GIDDING POLICE DEPARTMENT

  

The City of Giddings is going to be looking for a new Chief of Police after Bill Weems announced that he is stepping down.

Weems, who has been the Giddings Police Chief since October 2021, announced on the Department’s Facebook Page that his last day will be May 29.

On June 1, Weems will be starting a new role for the Texas Juvenile Justice Department Office of the Inspector General.

Reflecting on his accomplishments, Weems said the Giddings Police Department prioritized training, built a daily culture of accountability and teamwork, secured several grants that paid directly for modern equipment, and started the Citizen Police Academy to give the public a clear look at how their agency operates.

He also said that they took direct action to improve officer retention by implementing a new pay matrix and adding certification pay to ensure  experienced officers stay on their streets.

Weems closed his statement by thanking the public for their support during his time there.
