JULY SALES TAX REBATES DOWN FOR WASHINGTON CO. & BRENHAM, UNCHANGED FOR BURTON

  

Sales tax rebates in Washington County saw small reductions or no change at all for the month of July. 

Washington County collected a $383,450 rebate this month, down 2.77 percent from its $394,411 rebate in July 2025.  So far this year, the county has received $2,905,766, up 1.52 percent from a year ago at this time, when it had taken in $2,862,114.

The City of Brenham reported a payment of $816,590 for July, a reduction of 0.69 percent from the $822,280 it received last July.  The city’s receipts so far this year are up 0.25 percent over last, at $6,146,456 compared to $6,131,036.

The City of Burton saw no percentage difference in its July collection, as this month’s total of $10,283 is identical to that of July 2025.  For 2026, the city has received $90,292, down 15.37 percent from the $106,701 it saw through this time last year. 

Acting Comptroller Kelly Hancock announced $1.2 billion in local sales tax allocations for the month of July, 5.6 percent more than in July 2025 and 5.7 percent up for the year to date.

July’s allocations are based on sales made in May by businesses that report tax monthly.
