FATAL CRASH IN LYONS KILLS TWO, SENDS FIVE TO HOSPITAL
Two people were killed and five others injured after a collision Sunday afternoon in Burleson County.
The accident occurred at 2:15 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 36 and FM 60 in Lyons.
According to DPS Sergeant Justin Ruiz, a 2014 Kia Optima heading westbound on FM 60 was stopped at the intersection with Highway 36 and attempted to make a left-hand turn without yielding right-of-way. The vehicle was struck by a 2020 Ford F-250 traveling northbound on Highway 36.
The driver of the Kia, 43-year-old Clarissa Nunez of Corpus Christi, and a passenger, 68-year-old Diamantina Martinez, also of Corpus Christi, were pronounced dead at the scene. Two child passengers, an eight-year-old girl and a five-year-old boy, were transported with suspected serious injuries to McLane Children’s Hospital in Temple.
The driver and two passengers in the Ford were hospitalized at St. Joseph Health in Bryan with injuries believed to be minor.
Investigation into the crash is ongoing.
