Brenham’s Miracle Farm Boys Ranch earned two awards at the recent Ranch Brigade that took place in Santa Anna, Texas.

Miracle Farm high-schooler Josh and Associate Ranch Manager, Caleb Elliott, both took home “Top Herd” belt buckles for their performance, leadership and teamwork during the five-day program.

Texas Brigades is a nonprofit organization with a mission to educate and empower adolescents with leadership skills and knowledge in wildlife, fisheries, ranching, and land stewardship to become conservation ambassadors for a sustained natural resource legacy.

Ranch Brigade accepts 24 of the brightest and best high school students from across the state and gives them the tools and hands on experience to become ambassadors of land stewardship and livestock production in their respective communities.

Josh and Elliott attended the program with fellow Miracle Farm high-schooler Andrew. The boys were hand-selected strictly from their application essays, competing with many other Texas high-school students. When making the selections, the judges had no information about the boys’ backgrounds, families or residences.

The program included intensive hands-on training on low-stress livestock handling, tagging calves and administering vaccinations. They were introduced to grassland management, livestock nutrition and livestock marketing, while developing leadership skills.

Elliott called Ranch Brigade a wonderful experience for their young men. He added, “They both have a strong interest in ranch management and agricultural production, and this program gave them practical skills and valuable insight into the industry."
