The Grimes County Sheriff's Office is taking applications for their second annual Citizens Academy.

The Citizens Academy is a free program for community members that starts on September 9 and runs every Wednesday night from 6-8pm for seven weeks through October 21.

Participants will get a first-hand look at the inner workings of the Sheriff's Office.

Topics will include the patrol division, 9-1-1 dispatch operations, jail operations and procedures, criminal investigations, school resource officers, and K-9 operations.

It is a chance to gain a deeper understanding of the roles that law enforcement officers play in public safety.

Seating for the Citizens Academy is limited. You must be at least 18 years old to apply, and all applicants are required to submit to a background check.

Applications are due by next Friday, August 28.
