MULTIPLE ACCIDENTS AMONG 13 CALLS BETWEEN TUESDAY, EARLY THURSDAY FOR BRENHAM FD

  

The Brenham Fire Department responded to 13 calls between Tuesday and early this (Thursday) morning.

Just before 10 a.m. Tuesday, firefighters were dispatched to a gas odor at Tom Green and Market Streets.  After investigating, they found no presence of gas, but they did determine that the smell was coming from a dead animal in the storm drain.

Close to 4:30 p.m., an accident was reported at Highway 290 East and Market Street.  There was a two-vehicle collision blocking the intersection, with no injuries or hazards found.  Firefighters remained on scene and provided blocking until the roadway was cleared.

Two fire alarms were reported on Tuesday at Brenham High School, 525 A H Ehrig Drive, the first a few minutes shy of 6:30 p.m. and the second around 7:15 p.m.  The alarms were determined to be false.  Maintenance was on location to help resolve the issue. 

A third fire alarm at Brenham High School was called in at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday.  The alarm was once again found to be false, with an unknown detector issue.  The department had the alarm placed into test mode and requested maintenance have an alarm company come out to fix the issue.

Near 7:45 a.m., an electrical emergency was called in from Market and East Germania Streets.  Firefighters found that an 18-wheeler had caught some communication lines and pulled them down.  The fire department remained on scene for the City of Brenham Electric Department to arrive.

Shortly after 10:30 a.m., units responded to Hohlt Park, 2425 North Park Street, to assist with removal of bees that were being a nuisance to a construction crew.

At 12:30 p.m., BFD personnel went out to a crash in the 2600 block of Highway 36 South.  They found a minor crash with no visible damage and no injuries.  Police released the fire department from the call.

At 6 p.m., units went out to Goodwill, 2804 Wood Ridge Boulevard, for a fire alarm.  They determined that a pull station had accidentally been activated, so they restored the system before returning to service.

A few minutes before 6:30 p.m., firefighters were dispatched for mutual aid with the Salem Volunteer Fire Department to a rescue assignment at FM 109 and Muellersville Lane, but were cancelled enroute.  The driver had a part break on his truck and was no longer on scene.

Around 8 p.m., an accident was reported at Highway 290 and South Day Street.  One car was located off the road in a gas station parking lot.  The vehicle had minor damage, and the patient had no injuries.  Police continued to look for the second vehicle that was no longer on scene.

Just after 8:45 p.m., units were dispatched to a report of a structure fire in the 7900 block of Highway 290 East.  They arrived to find a large rubbish pile on fire.  Brenham firefighters assisted volunteers from the Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Department with extinguishing and overhauling the pile.

Close to 6:30 a.m. today, an electrical emergency was called in from the 600 block of Kerr Street, where firefighters found a communication line down and over the roadway.  They waited for the City of Brenham Electric Department to make location and were released from the call.
