FIVE FORMER ATHLETES TO BE INDUCTED INTO THE 2026 BRENHAM CUB FOOTBALL HALL OF HONOR

Five former Brenham High School football standouts representing multiple generations of Cub football will be inducted into the Brenham High School Cub Football Hall of Honor as members of the 2026 class.

This year’s inductees are Jason Jaster, Gary Ragston, Tony Burnett, Roderick Green and Tim Cole.

The annual Hall of Honor luncheon and induction ceremony will be held Friday, Sept. 25, in the Janis Sneed Banquet Room at the Blinn College Student Center in Brenham. Lunch will be served at 11 a.m., followed by the induction ceremony at 11:30 a.m.

The event will bring together family members, former teammates, coaches, alumni and supporters of Brenham football to celebrate the accomplishments of the five inductees and their contributions to the tradition of Cub football.

The 2026 class will also be honored later that evening at Cub Stadium, where the five inductees will be recognized during Brenham’s football game against Bastrop High School.

The on-field recognition will provide the Brenham community an opportunity to celebrate Jaster, Ragston, Burnett, Green and Cole and the roles they played in adding to the history and tradition of the Cub football program.

The Brenham High School Cub Football Hall of Honor recognizes former players, coaches and contributors whose achievements, leadership and dedication have made a lasting impact on Brenham football. Through the Hall of Honor, the program preserves the accomplishments of past generations while connecting their legacy with the Cubs of today.

Hall of Honor committee members are Michael Groves, Jarvis Van Dyke, Jerry Newman, Randy Weidemann, Derek Hall, DeWayne Burnett, Robert Stark, Michael Watts, Chad Lechler and Brenham High School head football coach Danny Youngs.
The five members of the 2026 class each followed a different path, but together they represent the tradition, excellence and pride that have helped define Brenham Cub football for generations.

Jason Jaster
Jason Jaster’s connection to Brenham Cub Football began in 1986 when, at just 14 years old, he served as a manager for a Cubs team coached by Mark Elam that finished 9-1-3, with its only loss coming against eventual state champion West Orange-Stark.
Among Jaster’s responsibilities was working alongside defensive coordinator Chris Quillian and coach Brent Terry during games, logging defensive play calls, play results, and down-and-distance situations. That experience helped ignite a lifelong passion for Brenham football.
After deciding to focus exclusively on football, Jaster committed himself to year-round weight training and conditioning. As a sophomore, he was moved up to the varsity level to provide depth and gain experience. He ultimately became a three-year varsity letterman.
During his junior and senior seasons, Jaster was a two-way starter on the offensive and defensive lines, earning All-District honors while becoming known for his high-motor style of play and leadership. His accomplishments were further recognized when he was selected as a Joe Routt Award winner, one of the distinguished honors associated with Brenham High School athletics.
Jaster’s connection to Cub Football continued long after his playing career. He has remained an avid follower and supporter of the program while building a career devoted to serving the Brenham and Washington County communities.
For more than three decades, Jaster has worked as a funeral director at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Along with his wife, Heidi, he owns and operates Jaster Services, LLC, a lawn maintenance, monument and stone engraving company. He also assists Heidi with her floral business in Burton.
Jaster resides in Burton with his wife, Heidi, and their son, Saeger.
From a 14-year-old varsity manager to an All-District two-way lineman, Joe Routt Award winner and lifelong supporter of the program, Jaster’s journey reflects dedication, hard work and a deep passion for Brenham Cub Football. Those qualities make Jason Jaster a deserving member of the Cub Football Hall of Honor.

Gary Ragston
Gary Ragston, a 2006 Brenham High School graduate, was one of the Cubs’ premier players of the mid-2000s, combining toughness, athleticism and an unmistakable love for the game of football.
Ragston was inserted into the varsity starting lineup as a sophomore and became a three-year starter at linebacker for the Cubs. While defense was his primary role during much of his career, his athletic ability allowed Brenham to utilize him on both sides of the football, particularly during his senior season when he emerged as one of the program’s top two-way performers.
Ragston capped his Brenham career with an outstanding senior season in 2005. Defensively, he established himself as one of the top linebackers in Texas and was selected First Team Class 4A All-State by the Texas Sports Writers Association.
His impact extended to the offensive side of the football, where Ragston caught 47 passes for 536 yards and five touchdowns while adding 166 rushing yards and two touchdowns. He finished the season with more than 700 yards from scrimmage and seven offensive touchdowns, all while continuing to anchor the Cub defense at linebacker.
Ragston also played a significant role in Brenham’s memorable 2005 postseason run. One of his signature moments came during the Cubs’ dramatic playoff victory over perennial power La Marque, when he scored a late touchdown and added a two-point conversion as Brenham rallied for the victory.
While his statistics and honors reflected his ability, those who played and coached alongside Ragston also remember the attitude and joy he brought to football. He genuinely loved playing the game, and his enthusiasm and competitive spirit seemed to permeate throughout his teammates. Whether on offense or defense, Ragston played with an energy that helped elevate those around him.
Following his Brenham career, Ragston continued playing football at Blinn College, extending a football journey that began in the green and white.
Ragston passed away on May 26, 2013, but his legacy continues through the family, friends, teammates and community members who remember the impact he made both on and off the field.
From becoming a varsity starter as a sophomore to earning first-team all-state honors as a senior, Ragston left an enduring mark on Brenham football. His talent, toughness, infectious enthusiasm and genuine love for the game make Gary Ragston a deserving member of the Cub Football Hall of Honor.

Tony Burnett
Tony Burnett was a standout two-way player for the Brenham Cubs from 1978 to 1980, establishing himself as one of the program’s most versatile athletes of his era.
A dynamic wide receiver known for his exceptional speed, dependable hands and big-play ability, Burnett received Honorable Mention All-District honors as a sophomore in 1978 before earning First Team All-District recognition in 1979.
Burnett capped his Cub football career in 1980 by again earning First Team All-District honors and being named Unanimous First Team All-Brazos Valley at wide receiver. He helped lead Brenham to a 7-2-1 record, while leading the Cubs in both receptions and scoring.
His impact was equally significant on the other side of the football. Burnett led Brenham in interceptions and punt returns while contributing to a dominant Cub defense that recorded six shutouts and allowed an average of just eight points per game.
Burnett was also an accomplished multi-sport athlete. He played basketball for the Cubs from 1978 to 1980 and concluded his high school athletic career as a member of Brenham’s 1981 UIL State Championship Track and Field Team. Burnett ran the second leg of the Cubs’ state championship 1,600-meter relay, which captured the title in a record time of 3 minutes, 15.9 seconds.
Following high school, Burnett earned a football scholarship to Blinn College, where he immediately became the Buccaneers’ starting wide receiver. He started all 20 games during his two seasons at Blinn and led the team in receptions in both his freshman and sophomore seasons.
His success at Blinn earned Burnett a scholarship to Rice University, where he competed in the Southwest Conference alongside his brother, DeWayne Burnett, a fellow Brenham Cub standout and Hall of Honor inductee.
Burnett continued to excel with the Owls. In 1983, he led Rice in both receptions and receiving yards while also ranking among the Southwest Conference leaders in kickoff returns and kickoff return yardage.
During the 1984 season, Burnett led Rice in yards per reception, ranked fifth in the conference in that category and finished among the SWC’s top 10 in receiving touchdowns.
One of the signature moments of Burnett’s collegiate career came in his final game against the University of Houston, when he hauled in a 74-yard touchdown reception. The play remains listed in the Rice football record book among the longest touchdown receptions in school history.
Following his collegiate career, Burnett built a distinguished career in supply chain logistics. He retired in 2023 after more than 30 years in management, including serving as an operations manager for DHL Global Supply Chain.
Burnett currently resides in Houston while maintaining strong ties to his hometown. He frequently returns to Brenham to volunteer with the Thomye Dell Jameson Ferguson-Burnett Senior Citizen Day Celebration and enjoys spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Roderick Green
Roderick Green, a member of the Brenham High School Class of 2000, is one of the select former Cubs to carry the Brenham football tradition all the way to the National Football League.
Born and raised in Brenham, Green played defensive end all four years at Brenham High School before graduating in 2000. After high school, he continued his career at Blinn College, playing for the Buccaneers during the 2001 season.
Green then earned the opportunity to continue his career at Central Missouri State University, where he developed into one of the top defensive players in program history. During his two seasons with the Mules, Green earned All-America honors twice, was a two-time First Team All-MIAA selection and earned all-region recognition in both seasons. He finished his Central Missouri career with 39 tackles for loss, an impressive total despite playing just two seasons in the program.
His combination of strength, athleticism and ability to pressure opposing quarterbacks attracted the attention of NFL scouts, and in April 2004, Green was selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the fifth round of the NFL Draft. His selection made him the highest-drafted player in Central Missouri football history at the time.
Green spent three seasons with the Ravens before joining the San Francisco 49ers in 2006, where he played two additional seasons. During his five-year NFL career as a linebacker and defensive end, Green recorded 44 tackles and 12 sacks, establishing himself as an effective pass rusher at the professional level.
Following his time in the NFL, Green continued his professional football career with the California Redwoods of the United Football League, adding another chapter to a playing career that stretched from Brenham to the professional ranks.
Green’s accomplishments at Central Missouri were later permanently recognized with his induction into the University of Central Missouri Athletics Hall of Fame, honoring a collegiate career that included two All-America selections, two first-team all-conference honors and his rise to the NFL.
After retiring from football in 2010, Green entered the business world and later moved into real estate investing with his wife in 2015.
Today, Green and his family reside in Kansas City, Mo., where he and his wife have built a successful life together. The couple has two daughters, ages 19 and 14, who Green describes as the joy of his life and a constant source of motivation and perspective.
From playing four years for the Brenham Cubs to Blinn College, becoming a two-time All-American at Central Missouri and ultimately reaching the NFL, Green’s football journey stands among the most accomplished in Cub history. His achievements on the field, success beyond football and the life he has built with his family make Roderick Green a deserving member of the Cub Football Hall of Honor.

Tim Cole
Tim Cole, a 2012 Brenham High School graduate, established himself as one of the most accomplished linebackers of his era while helping lead the Cubs through one of the most successful stretches in modern Brenham football history.
A three-year starter and team captain for the Cubs from 2010-12, Cole finished his Brenham career with 184 tackles, 75 tackles for loss, 53 quarterback hurries and 20 sacks. He also forced five fumbles, recovered five fumbles and recorded one interception. During his final three seasons, Brenham compiled an outstanding 34-5 record.
Cole emerged as a major contributor early in his varsity career. As a sophomore, he recorded 88 tackles, 31 tackles for loss, 28 quarterback hurries and 12 sacks while helping Brenham win 13 games and make a deep postseason run. He followed with 44 tackles, 20 tackles for loss and three sacks during a 10-1 junior season.
As a senior, Cole recorded 52 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, 17 quarterback hurries and five sacks, along with two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and an interception as the Cubs finished 11-1.
His performance earned him District 17-4A Defensive Most Valuable Player honors, First Team All-Greater Houston recognition and a spot on the Texas Sports Writers Association Class 4A All-State Team.
Cole also established himself as one of the top linebacker prospects in the state and nation. During the summer of 2011, he participated in The Opening presented by Nike Football, an elite national showcase featuring many of the country's top high school prospects.
He was ranked as the 27th-best outside linebacker in the nation by ESPNU and the 100th-best overall prospect by The Sporting News. Cole also was selected to the Houston Chronicle's Houston 100, recognizing the top prospects in the Greater Houston area, and the Austin American-Statesman's Fab 55, which highlighted the state's top football recruits.
His prep career culminated with selections to two prestigious postseason all-star events. Cole represented the West Team in the 2012 U.S. Army All-American Bowl and also earned recognition as a 2012 International Bowl All-American.
Following his standout career at Brenham, Cole continued his football career at the University of Texas.
Cole spent five years in the Longhorn football program, appearing in 42 career games with seven starts at linebacker. He finished his Texas career with 65 tackles, two sacks and two passes defended, while also contributing extensively on special teams.
His leadership continued to grow throughout his time in Austin, and Cole was selected as a Texas football team captain in 2016.
Cole also excelled academically while balancing the demands of major college football. He was a two-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll and graduated from the University of Texas in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Corporate Communication from the Moody College of Communication.
He continued his education at Texas and earned a Master of Arts in Advertising from the Moody College of Communication in 2018.
While completing his graduate studies, Cole began expanding his interests beyond football. From 2017-18, he served as a graphic design intern and model for Texas Football, gaining experience in creative media and sports branding.
Cole also entered the entrepreneurial world. In 2017, he became a co-founder of Elite Sweets, a company initially focused on producing protein donuts. The business was selected as a member of the Spring 2018 Longhorn Startup Lab cohort, providing Cole and his team an opportunity to further develop their company.
Elite Sweets later secured its first round of funding after winning at the 2018 WeWork Creator Awards. The company continued its development as a member of the Sputnik ATX accelerator program's summer 2019 cohort.
After football and his entrepreneurial ventures, Cole transitioned into the entertainment and production industry, where he has worked both behind and in front of the camera.
He has worked in film, television and commercial production as a camera assistant, production assistant and assistant director, while also pursuing opportunities as a professional actor.
Cole's acting and production work has included appearances in commercials, television pilots and independent films. Among his notable credits, he served as a stunt double on Season 1, Episode 5 of "The Best Man: The Final Chapters."
He also worked as part of the 2024-25 Capital One Orange Bowl social media campaign, continuing a career that has combined athletics, communications, entrepreneurship, production and entertainment.
From his days as a dominant linebacker and captain for the Brenham Cubs to competing for the University of Texas, earning two degrees, launching a business and building a career in media and entertainment, Cole has continued to demonstrate the same drive and versatility that defined his football career.
His accomplishments on the field, leadership in the Brenham football program and success beyond the game make Tim Cole a deserving member of the Cub Football Hall of Honor.
