EMERGENCY PLANE LANDING, MULTIPLE ACCIDENTS PART OF BUSY LABOR DAY WEEKEND FOR BRENHAM FD
An emergency plane landing was one of 11 calls for the Brenham Fire Department between Sunday and early this (Tuesday) morning.
Units responded at 1 p.m. Monday for an aircraft emergency in the 1800 block of FM 50.
The fire department reported that the plane experienced engine failure but was able to land successfully in a nearby field. The pilot was injured and was transported by EMS.
According to the fire department, the plane had a gas leak on the right wing of the plane. All hazards were mitigated.

Shortly after 9 a.m. Sunday, BFD personnel were dispatched to a fire alarm at Hartz Chicken Buffet, 2610 Highway 36 South. Nothing was showing from the exterior of the business. They found a bad detector that caused the alarm to go off. The business was reaching out to an alarm company to replace the detector.
At 2 p.m., another fire alarm was reported at 222 East Main Street. Nothing was showing from the exterior of the building. Firefighters found a water leak in the roof that was hitting the detector. They returned to service after the owner put the alarm into test mode until the roof leak is fixed.
Approaching 3 p.m., a crash was called in from Highway 290 East and South Day Street. The department found a two-vehicle crash with no injuries or hazards at the scene. Firefighters assisted Brenham police with traffic control before returning to service.
A few minutes past 7:15 p.m., another accident was reported in the 2100 block of Highway 290 West. There, units found a two-vehicle accident. One patient was injured and transported by EMS. They assisted with traffic control before clearing the call.
A pair of gas odor/leak calls came in around 7:45 p.m. at homes in the 1700 block of Eldon Street and the 2300 block of Katherine Street. For the Eldon Street call, firefighters found a gas leak on a line entering the house, and for the Katherine Street call, units found gas leaking from the outside meter.
At 8:30 a.m. Monday, personnel were dispatched to the 4300 block of Highway 290 East for a crash with entrapment. According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, a commercial motor vehicle sustained heavy damage, and there was a separate crash involving an EMS unit that was struck while at the first scene. Three patients were transported. Firefighters from Brenham, Chappell Hill and Salem assisted with cleaning up the roadway and performing traffic control.
Close to 10:30 a.m., a gas odor/leak was called in from Baylor Scott & White – The Brenham Clinic, 600 North Park Street. Firefighters checked the interior of the building but found nothing at the time.
Around 3:45 p.m., the fire department was called out to Highway 290 West and Westwood Lane for a four-vehicle crash. Upon arrival, units found that all four vehicles had minor damage to them, with one vehicle blocking the roadway. After assisting with traffic control, they returned to the station.
Around 4:15 a.m. today, BFD members were dispatched to the Mill Creek Residence Hall, 1192 Old Mill Creek Road, for a fire alarm. Nothing was showing from the outside of the building. After investigating, they found the alarm system malfunctioned.
