NAVASOTA OFFICIALS HOLD ‘RETREAT’

  

Members of the Navasota City council and city representatives got together Wednesday for a summer retreat.

The group took the time to assess the past year's successes and prepare for the upcoming fiscal year.

The meeting touched on various points such as city infrastructure, school safety and the city budget.

City Council members said they are positive about the direction of the City of Navasota, they are aware that work is needed to get the city where they want it to be.

Navasota City Manager Brad Stafford said officials have been working to accomplish goals set in the city's 2015 Comprehensive Plan.

Officials say the city is working at fulfilling the goals of its Capital Improvement Plan as well.  From 2017-2018, 32 streets have been repaired throughout the city.  The plan also addresses renovations to city drainage and sewage. Stafford said the city has signed on with the U.S. Corps of Engineers to conduct a city drainage study.

Stafford said next year's budget may be harder to determine, making it difficult for the city to take on additional Capital Improvement projects without borrowing money or applying for grants.

Navasota school superintendent, Stu Musick, also spoke at the retreat Wednesday.

Musick talked extensively about security measures and precautions NISD is taking to ensure school safety.
