Deputy CJ Lehmann has been at an Austin hospital since Thursday, after he was shot in the face while attempting to serve a warrant.

Sheriff Keith Korenek says Lehmann has lost sight in his left eye, and hospital staff are still attempting to save his right eye. Lieutenant David Beyer reports that, despite this, Lehmann is “alert”, and “in good spirits”.  Lehmann is scheduled to have eye surgery later this week.

The suspect is in custody at an Austin hospital, according to La Grange Police Chief David Gilbreath. Gilbreath says the Fayette County District Attorney’s Office has not given consent to release the name or charges against the suspect, at this time.

Donations for Lehmann can be made online via the Facebook page at “Fayette County Deputy CJ Lehmann Benevolent Fund”. They can also be made, in person or by mail, to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Memorial and Benevolent Society, at 1646 North Jefferson Street in La Grange.  In the memo portion, write “For CJ”.  All donations accepted will go directly to Lehmann and his family.

Sheriff Korenek reminds the public to make sure that fundraisers being advertised are legitimately for Deputy Lehmann and his family. Any fundraiser that has been approved through the Sheriff’s Office or the Memorial and Benevolent Society is being posted on the Facebook page created for Lehmann.

Anyone wondering if a fundraiser is authentic can contact the Facebook page, or Detective Angela Lala at the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.
