FORMER PRESIDENT GEORGE H.W. BUSH DIES
Former President George H.W. Bush has died.
Bush died Friday evening in Houston, at the age of 94. He had been in and out of the hospital for several years, battling health issues.
His death follows the passing of his wife of 73 years, former First Lady Barbara Bush. She died in April, at the age of 92.
He was the last president to serve in the military during World War II, joining the Navy on his 18th birthday and flying 58 combat missions during the war.
His time as president saw the final days of the Cold War and the fall of the Berlin Wall, negotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement, and Operation Desert Storm, responding to Iraq’s invasion of neighboring Kuwait.
The Bush Library and Museum in College Station was dedicated in 1997, housing millions of historical documents and artifacts from his presidency.
All scheduled events at the Bush Library have been cancelled, including today’s (Saturday) Holidays in the Rotunda.
