WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO DISCUSS PURCHASE OF PROPERTY FRONTING ROAD AND BRIDGE FACILITY

Washington County Commissioners will meet Tuesday to consider purchasing land next to the Road and Bridge facility under construction on Highway 36 North.

The property being considered is just under half an acre of land adjacent to the property that holds the facility, which will house the Road and Bridge Department, rural addressing and environmental services.

The county is looking to purchase the 0.447 acre tract of land at roughly $3 per square foot. This equates to roughly $58,414, or $130,680 per full acre.  The transaction is with Carey Counsil, who owns the Crosswinds Estate subdivision next to the county’s property.

County Judge John Durrenberger said the purchase of this frontage will allow for safer and more efficient entry to and exit from the facility. He said it will also allow easier access for utilities.

In order to approve the purchase, commissioners will first need to adopt and approve an order to exempt the transaction from competitive bidding procedures. They will then appoint an agent to represent the county in negotiations, before considering authorization of the actual purchase.

Also on the agenda, the court will act on four formal notices for road and utility work. They include:

  • a 4-inch Road Bore with a 2-inch water line extension in Precinct Three on Edgewater Lane by PGMS-Central Washington County Water Supply Corporation.
  • A proposed utility line by AMP Texas Pipelines, LLC, for a 16-inch natural gas pipeline within county right-of-way of Muske-Ullrich Road in Precinct Four.
  • A proposed utility line by AMP Texas Pipelines, LLC, for a 16-inch natural gas pipeline within county right-of-way of Kieke Road in Precinct Four.
  • A proposed utility line by PGMS-Central Washington County Water Supply Corporation for a 2-inch road bore for a water line extension within county right-of-way of South Berlin Road in Precinct Four.

The county will also consider approval of this year’s group medical insurance rates administered through the Texas Association of Counties.

Commissioners will meet Tuesday morning at 9 a.m., at the Washington County Courthouse.

  1. Your right Matthew, it smells. These small tracts belonging to a local council friendly developer are in his subdivision. The small one acre plus tracts which are still vacant are all receiving a healthy AG exemption for hay making. Some with as little as $190 per year. The records can all be found on the Washington county appraisal site.

  2. Wow, seems like a bad deal there! $58,000 for less than half an acre!!!!!!!
