BURTON CITY COUNCIL TO CONSIDER TAX RATE
The Burton City Council will consider adoption of a tax rate at its meeting tomorrow (Tuesday).
The proposed rate is 50 cents per $100 valuation, the same as last year. However, this rate will be made up of 10 cents for maintenance and operations (M&O) and 40 cents for debt services (I&S). Last year, the rate was made up of 10.68 cents for M&O, and 39.32 cents for I&S.
Also in session, the council will consider approving an amended budget for the current fiscal year, for changes in current expenditures. It will also look at the proposed 2019-20 budget for the Washington County Appraisal District, and consider allowing the retention of funds from 2017-18 for the Appraisal District.
The council will also consider:
- Approval of a division order from GeoSouthern Operating II, LLC, certifying the receipt of a decimal interest in a 729.81 acre unit.
- Approval of the addition of a 12x21-foot patio/deck to the front of the Burton Roadhouse.
- An ordinance to abandon and convey a portion of Branch Street, Commerce Street, Water Street, and between Block 17 and Indian Creek to Raymond C. Thaler and Annette Turner.
- An ordinance to abandon and convey a portion of Branch Street and Water Street to Joyce Hopkins.
- A plan to control or eradicate the peacock population in Burton. The item was postponed from an agenda in 2018, originally brought up by a citizen.
The council will meet tomorrow afternoon at 5:30 p.m., at Burton City Hall.
