BACK TO SCHOOL FOR BURTON ISD STUDENTS

  

Today (Wednesday) marks the first day of classes for Burton ISD.

Around 480 students across Burton Elementary School and Burton High School head back to school today.

Elementary School Principal Melinda Fuchs, who has spent six of her 20 years in the school district as the elementary principal, says both students and staff are eager to get school underway. She says this was especially evident at last week’s “Meet the Teacher” event.

 

Matthew Wamble, coming into his first fall semester as the high school principal, says the district is continuing to put an emphasis on curriculum and plentiful academic opportunities. One new opportunity for students is an on-campus dual enrollment program through a partnership with the University of Texas.

 

Superintendent Dr. Edna Kennedy, Burton’s superintendent since 2015, says Burton ISD is a welcoming environment with high aspirations.

 

Last week, the district earned a “B” accountability ranking and 89 rating from the Texas Education Agency, one point shy of an “A”. Dr. Kennedy said, with all the school programs and activities not included in the accountability rating, the district considers itself to be an “A+”.
