BURTON CITY COUNCIL TO CONTINUE PEACOCK DISCUSSION
The Burton City Council will once again take up conversation Tuesday of the town’s two resident peacocks: Percy and Chester.
The two have been the main topic of discussion for the council’s past few meetings, with last month’s meeting drawing a standing-room-only crowd.
The council tabled action at both of its last two meetings to further discuss a stance on the peacock population. Multiple residents have come forward in meetings, speaking both for and against having the birds freely roam the city.
City Attorney Aaron Kleinschmidt is expected to present a new animal control ordinance for adoption. City Secretary Angela Harrington previously said the ordinance should have more lengthy explanation on the city’s status as a bird sanctuary, as well as protections and control methods for the birds.
Also in session, the council will consider:
- Adoption of an ordinance establishing an asset capitalization policy.
- Approving the Washington County Appraisal District to purchase a new fleet vehicle using reserved funds. It will also consider making nominations to serve on the Appraisal District Board.
The council will meet Tuesday afternoon at 5:30 p.m., at Burton City Hall.
