WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS DISTRIBUTE SCHOOL LAND REVENUES TO LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICTS

Brenham and Burton ISDs will be receiving over $400,000 in revenue generated from Washington County-owned land in Tom Green County.
County Commissioners at their meeting today (Tuesday) approved the distribution of school land revenues to the two school districts. Commissioners annually distribute revenue from mineral rights and farming, hunting and grazing leases in Tom Green County to the school districts, based on average daily attendance.
Brenham ISD will receive a check for $375,848, while Burton ISD will receive $32,584. County Treasurer Peggy Kramer said the checks will be going out today.
Last year, Brenham ISD received $261,590, and Burton ISD received $24,144. Kramer said the county received an additional check this year because of a right-of-way easement. She said the county also received an increase in interest, since Washington County has a lot of the Tom Green County money invested.

During Sheriff Otto Hanak’s monthly report, he said the county jail’s population went up over 100 total inmates last week. He said he didn’t recall the population being over 100 in the last five years. Hanak also said livestock outcalls went up by 23 this month. The rise in calls was attributed to dry weather.
Also at today’s meeting, commissioners:
