COW-CALF CLINIC FRIDAY AT WASHINGTON CO. FAIRGROUNDS

Large crowds are expected Friday at the Washington County Fairgrounds, for the 48th Annual South Central Texas Cow-Calf Clinic and Trade Show.

The clinic gets underway Friday morning at the Fairgrounds Sales Facility, with registration at 7:30 a.m. and the program at 8 a.m.

This year’s clinic will focus on emerging issues for cattle producers, from landowner liability and changes in animal identification requirements, to heifer development and grazing management.

Kara Matheney, County Extension Agent for Ag and Natural Resources, says the event has a rich history in not just Washington County, but all of South Central Texas.

Last year’s clinic began a youth track with separate lessons and demonstrations for aspiring cattle producers. Matheney says there are some special events planned for youths this year.

One lucky attendee will win a commercial heifer purchased at the Washington County Fair. This is the sixth year in a row the Washington County Beef and Forage Committee and Texas Farm Credit have partnered to offer this giveaway.

There will also be a scholarship drawing, with proceeds benefitting the youth in all sponsoring counties and the Cow-Calf Clinic Youth Program.

KWHI will have live reports from the Cow-Calf Clinic throughout Friday morning.
