FAYETTE CONSIDERED “LEAST OBESE” COUNTY IN TEXAS BY NATIONAL STUDY

A report published earlier this month by a national financial news organization ranked Fayette County as the least obese county in Texas.

Using numbers from the Centers for Disease Control, 24/7 Wall Street reviewed the number of obese adults – defined as having a body mass index of at least 30 – to determine the lease obese county in each state.

The report, which published October 16th, found that Fayette County had an obesity rate of 20.5 percent, compared to the state average of 30.1 percent.  Nationwide, only 15 other counties on the report had a lower obesity rate.

According to the report, 77 percent of Fayette County adults are considered physically active, just under the state average of 77.2 percent.  Fayette County’s median household income also fell just short of the state average at $56,941, compared to the state’s $57,051.
