SALES TAX ALLOCATIONS UP FOR BRENHAM, BURTON, DOWN FOR WASHINGTON CO.
Sales and tax distributions this month were up slightly for Brenham, up significantly for Burton, and down considerably for Washington County to round out 2019.
Washington County’s rebate in December was $250,275, down 43.3 percent from a year ago, when it received $441,747. For 2019, the county received $3,188,369, up 0.3 percent from 2018’s total payments of $3,178,266.
Brenham received $565,308 in December, a 0.3 percent increase from last December’s payment of $563,153. For the year, Brenham received $6,958,789, compared to $6,514,581 received in 2018, a 6.8 percent increase.
Burton’s rebate in December was $7,838, up 44.1 percent from the $5,438 it received last December. Through 2019, Burton received $84,690, a 12 percent increase from 2018’s total of $75,533.
Comptroller Glenn Hegar reported the state paid out $820.5 million in sales tax rebates in December, 7.8 percent more than December of 2018, and 5.1 percent more for the year. These allocations are based on sales made in October, by businesses that report taxes monthly.
