CITY BUILDING PERMITS IN 2019 UP $1.5 MILLION OVER 2018
The City of Brenham’s building permits through 2019 were up roughly $1.5 million over the previous year.
The city issued a total of 264 permits at $38,809,845 in 2019, compared to 300 permits at $37,392,275 in 2018.
Out of all categories in 2019, new commercial buildings led the way with six permits taken out for $15,707,481. 2018 saw more commercial building permits, at 20, but at a lower total at $8,363,872.
Commercial renovations was the second highest category, with 58 permits issued for $13,067,320. In 2018, 75 commercial renovations permits were issued, for $9,343,152.
Homebuilding saw a dip in 2019, with 55 permits issued for $6,796,654. That compares to 59 new home permits issued by the city in 2018, for $7,534,775.
In December, the largest permit was issued to Germania Insurance for $705,356, for revisions to its third floor remodel for office space.
Two new homes were permitted in December, for $212,760. December of 2018 saw five new residences permitted, for $478,480.
Throughout the month of December, 12 permits were issued by the city for $1,047,491. In December of 2018, 27 permits were issued, for $4,473,186.
