BURTON SCHOOL BOARD RENEWS PERSONNEL CONTRACTS, APPROVES SCHOOL YEAR CALENDAR
The Burton School Board approved the contract extensions of several administrative positions at its meeting Thursday.
After meeting in executive session, the board unanimously voted to extend the contracts of Elementary and High School Principals Melinda Fuchs and Matthew Wamble one year, until 2022.
The contract of Athletic Director Jason Hodde was also renewed for one year, until 2022. The motion passed 5-2, with Felton and Tracey Cox voting against the measure.
The contracts of Student Services Director James Little and Counselor Angela Rhodes were approved unanimously for one year, for 2021.
No discussion was held on personnel salaries.
In regular session, the board approved the proposed calendar for the 2020-21 school year. Superintendent Dr. Edna Kennedy said this year’s calendar is similar to what Burton ISD approved last year, and to what Brenham ISD approved last month.
According to the calendar, the first day of school for students is August 20th, a Thursday. Students will be off a full week for Thanksgiving and two-and-a-half weeks for Christmas, getting off on December 21st and returning to class on January 6th. Spring break is March 15th through the 19th to match with that of Blinn College and Texas A&M, and the final day of classes is May 27th.
Also in session Thursday, the board:
- Approved the purchase of a 35-passenger and 14-passenger bus. For the 35-passenger bus, the district will only need to pay $17,000, as it received a $73,000 grant for the bus. The price of the 14-seater bus was $65,000.
- Held a public hearing on the district and campus 2018-19 Texas Academic Performance Report.
- Approved a resolution regarding special education shared services agreement with the Brazos Valley Regional Day School Program for the Deaf Shared Services Arrangement.
- Discussed district safety and security in executive session.
