LOCAL BOWLERS COMPETE AT REGIONAL TOURNAMENT

 

Corey McGhee, a Junior at Burton High School advanced to the State High School Bowling Tournament by finishing 3rd in the Regional held Sunday at Maxbowl in Humble.

Corey bowled games of 263, 231, 181, 197, and 207 averaging 216 over those five games.  He will next compete at the State Tournament to be held in San Antonio March 28th and 29th. Corey's 263 was the highest game bowled during the Region VIII tournament.

Brenham sophomore Campbell Groves came in 10th, bowling games of 170, 202, 184, 244, and 212 averaging 203.  Groves came up 18 total pins short of advancing to State.

Charlie Boggan also completed in the Singles competition for Brenham.

In the team competition Brenham represented the Bluebonnet district.   In addition to Groves and Boggan, Reece Knebel, Devin Murithi, and Carter Cohrs round out the Brenham team.  The Cubs had a high game of 200, but failed to advance to the State level.

The Burton Girls team also competed at the Tournament with a high game of 142.  The team consisted Olivia Flores, Kelsey Fehrle, Karime Ortiz, Kirstin Dyess, and Sabrina Burke, with Kirstin and Sabrina also competing in the singles tournament.

Region VIII is comprised of teams from Beaumont, Humble, Greater Houston, Katy, and the Brazos Valley.
