The team of La Grange-based cookers bested over 250 other teams as they claimed the spot of Overall Grand Champion Saturday night. The team was also named Go Texan Grand Champion.
Teams from across the state and the world competed Thursday through Saturday for championship titles in brisket, ribs, chicken, Go Texan, and Dutch oven dessert. This year’s tournament also held a Junior Cook-off for the first time, where over 20 participants ages 8 to 14 prepared a steak and were judged on presentation, tenderness, and taste.
Also competing in the weekend tournament was the S.O.S. Cookers from Washington County, who earned their place in the competition after being named Overall Champion of the 2019 Washington County Go Texan Cook-off. Although the S.O.S. Cookers did not place, they served plenty of good food and drinks along with some Washington County hospitality. The Last Place Cookers will represent Washington County at next year’s competition.
Coming in as Reserve Overall Grand Champion was last year’s Overall Grand Champion: Operation BBQ Relief.
