BRENHAM SCHOOL BOARD HEARS PROPERTY TAX ESTIMATE
The Brenham School Board held another virtual meeting at noon today (Monday). During his update, Superintendent Dr. Walter Jackson said he is expecting to hear something this week from the Texas Education Agency about whether this year’s graduating class will get to have a live or virtual graduation. The Brenham graduation is tentatively scheduled for June 6th.
Child Nutrition Services Director Sandra Baxter updated the board on the boxed school lunch handouts. Approximately 850 boxes of food were handed out each of the first 2 weeks of the program. Each box contains 5 lunches and 5 breakfasts for each student. The district will be handing out the boxes again this Wednesday at Brenham High School and Goodwill Missionary Baptist Church.
Washington County Chief Appraiser Willy Dilworth updated the board on where he expects tax values to go this year. He stated that despite the COVID-19 pandemic, he expected tax evaluations to slightly increase or stay relatively flat for the year. Director of Business & Finance for BISD, Kim Weatherby said she expects the tax rate for the district to stay the same or decrease slightly based upon the predicted revenue from the tax office.
In the only item to receive a vote from trustees, the board approved a new roof for the tax office. The current foam roof was applied years ago and is badly in need of replacement. The board voted to remove it completely and replace it with a Duro-Last roof.
