NATIONAL GUARD PERFORMING COVID-19 TESTING THURSDAY AT KRUSE VILLAGE

A Brenham nursing home is undergoing state-mandated COVID-19 testing today (Thursday).

The National Guard set up this morning at Kruse Village, and is performing all-day testing on its residents and staff.

Kruse Village Executive Director Coy Fontentot said there are currently no confirmed cases of COVID-19 at the facility, and that this testing is just part of Governor Greg Abbott’s order earlier this month to test all nursing homes in the state.

Fontenot does not believe the National Guard is performing testing at any other Brenham nursing homes today.

COVID-19 has greatly affected nursing homes across the state and country, with nearly half of all COVID-19 deaths in Texas coming from nursing homes or assisted living facilities.  The virus has hit the Brenham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center particularly hard, with the facility accounting for 110 of Washington County’s 199 positive cases and 23 of the county’s 26 deaths.
