LOCAL LEADERS EXPRESS OPTIMISM ABOUT STATE OF COVID-19 IN WASHINGTON CO.
Brenham and Washington County officials say the road to COVID-19 recovery looks clearer than ever.
Washington County Health Authority Dr. William Loesch, Washington County Judge John Durrenberger, and Brenham Mayor Milton Tate all spoke in a video update released this (Friday) morning by the Washington County Joint Information Center. In the video, the three shared an optimistic outlook for the community, citing increased numbers in recovered cases and a greater sense of normalcy returning to people’s lives.
Dr. Loesch said metrics are improving, showcasing decreased death counts and projections statewide. He said, while the pandemic is not over, current trends indicate that life should be more akin to what people would consider “normal” later this summer.
Durrenberger said things are looking up as the county moves into its fourth month of COVID-19 tracking, with the county’s active cases decreasing even as businesses and facilities open back up. He said residents are to be commended for the work they’ve done to stop the spread of the virus.
Brenham Mayor Milton Tate gave a rundown of the city’s plans for summer programs and facility openings, some of which were discussed at Thursday’s Brenham City Council meeting. Tate encouraged the public to support local businesses as they continue to reopen.
The full video update can be seen below, and on the City of Brenham YouTube channel.
Government offices at all levels …(and public schools) are using covid19 to sequester themselves away from full duty…open everything up and get to work…i just left city hall at 10:30 and they said i couldnt get in until 11. Local government not being open when businesses open is a problem…..be part of the solution City of Brenham….not you know, obstructing business flow…The police didnt stop patrolling and the Sherriffs office didnt close…stop fiddeling all the time and do your job
So I’m still missing how I am being encouraged to sit in restaurants here but not use the library in its normal capacity. What exactly is the difference between sitting in a restaurant or shopping in a store and sitting in a library or walking around a book section? 67 cases out of 35000 people….. the numbers speak for themselves. I’m hearing still updates are being given for everything but the children’s facilities. The splash pad can’t be opened….. until when exactly? Oh, that’s right they didn’t say. I’m so tired of this attitude this city has of be glad you are getting what you get and deal with it. Have we lost what it is to be living in America among all the noise? The WHO just came out and said healthy people should not be wearing masks because it’s not good to continue breathing in Carbon dioxide. Why is it still being recommended?
Pardon me but the county and city have over 35000 people living there and the last count I saw you have tested around 2500 very low number I would really recommended you wait till more testing is done
Lame, scared, no threat.
Open it up.
99.9% of people will be fine.
The facilities are closed because of budget issues, H.O.T. funding not coming in, and bad management by the City of Brenham and the people in charge, yes, that’s right.
The library, pool, and playgrounds are probably the safest places to be in the county.
Especially compared to shopping at Wal mart, Heb, Home Depot, Lowes, or any other similar business.
People are dying in nursing homes, and other indoor facilities that hold older, more vulnerable people.
If we are not dropping dead from the major retailers, then why would we at the library or pool?
I just wish the powers that be would say the truth, that they are short on funding, and have mismanaged the monies to begin with.
But, what do I know, I am just a stupid tax payer.
