WASHINGTON CO. ADDS 30 NEW ACTIVE CASES—39 TOTAL—TO COVID-19 COUNT WEDNESDAY

HIGHEST SINGLE-DAY INCREASE IN CASES REPORTED

Washington County reported its highest single-day total of new COVID-19 cases Wednesday, clocking in 39 total cases, 30 of them active.

The new cases include 36 patients from Brenham, two from Chappell Hill, and one from the old Washington area. They include six teenagers, four in their 20s, five in their 30s, seven in their 40s and 50s, four in their 60s, and three in their 70s and 80s.

Nine of the new cases Wednesday were reported as recovered, so the county now has 215 active cases of a total of 439 positives.

Of the active cases, none are currently hospitalized.  The county’s recovery count sits at 190, while 34 patients have died.  Since the month of July began, the county has reported 169 positive cases, compared to 270 since the first reported case on March 25th.

The Washington County Joint Information Center (JIC) says it believes there may be numerous unreported recovered cases, but can only report recoveries it officially receives from the Department of State Health Services (DSHS).

According to the JIC, the 439 positive cases—including recovered and deceased patients—make up 1.22 percent of the county’s population.

An update was not provided on the number of cumulative COVID-19 tests performed by the county.

The JIC says, due to the ongoing pandemic, it will not be able to report updates daily.  It has moved to reporting updates every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and notes there may be large jumps in data to include information from previous days.

  1. How can you report 39 case positive for a day then have 9 recovery of them in one day. Something doesn’t add up. Is there a drug to cure ? No

  2. Does anyone know if there has been any community engagement about Blinn’s reopening of the dorms? It seems as though Blinn bringing in students from all over Texas and elsewhere into the community to live, travel, and work is of an interest to the community in terms of spread. The community as a whole should be involved in the discussion.
