BSW-BRENHAM’S HOSPITAL CAPACITY “BELOW 50 PERCENT” OF CURRENT 60 BED TOTAL

  

Baylor Scott and White officials say they have seen a decline in the number of COVID-19 cases in the Brazos Valley over the past month, and that its hospitals in the region are mostly providing care to non-COVID-19 patients.

In a release late this (Friday) morning from the Washington County Joint Information Center (JIC), Baylor Scott and White – College Station Region President Jason Jennings provided an update on the patient count at its hospitals in Brenham and College Station.

Jennings said at this time, the hospital capacity at Baylor Scott and White Medical Center in Brenham is below 50 percent of the current total of 60 hospital beds.  Meanwhile, the patient count for the College Station hospital and ICU is around 75 percent of 142 total beds.  He said these totals do not account for any additional capacity Baylor Scott and White could build into its hospitals.

Jennings noted the “vast majority” of hospital care provided for the past several months in both Brenham and College Station has been “unrelated to COVID-19”.

As of this afternoon, Washington County is reporting 523 total positive cases, 88 active cases, 395 recoveries, and 40 deaths.  Since the JIC’s last update last Friday, active cases have dropped by seven, one additional death has been reported, and 30 patients have recovered.

Brenham Mayor Milton Tate said residents should continue to remain vigilant in wearing masks and keeping six feet of distance from one another in order to help ensure the continued decline of active case numbers.  He said if people continue to follow guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the local community and economy will “recover quicker and stronger”.
